IRH

Innovative Residential Housing for the Mediterranean

Contexto

The IRH project aimed to consolidate the environmentally responsible housing sector in Mediterranean countries.

Objetivo

The project was launched within the context of lacking application of sustainability criteria in the residential building sector in the Mediterranean regions, as well as of a considerable dispersion of energy and environmental labels with different criteria and indicators. Retaining the Mediterranean identity and taking into account region specific socio-economic conditions, the IRH project´s main objective was to improve the competitiveness of innovative and sustainable models for the housing sector.

The specific objectives that the project aimed to achieve were to facilitate the development of common guidelines and policy approaches to assess the sustainability of Mediterranean residential buildings in order to promote the use of sustainable and responsible models of housing. In particular, IRH has considered the following areas as assessment parameters:

  • Territory and Site
  • Materials
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Health and Comfort
  • Socio economic aspects
  • Gestión

The EU-Med funded project (2010-2012) was led by ACC1Ó with the support of the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Government of Catalonia and with the participation of 10 partners from the Mediterranean regions of France, Italy, Greece, Croatia, and Catalonia. The established method was applied to different residential buildings to check its suitability. .
